That was a very mean thing of her to say.

I think it’s because her Dad said Threehorns Never Play with Longnecks. The MPAA needed to pay more attention to inappropriate content in the 80s. The Land Before Time is a defiant PG, not G.

The original was kinda cutting it, true. Though, admittedly, The Hunchback of Notre Dame was cutting it even more and still got a G rating.

It certainly was a mean thing to say, and it’s probably the most heinous thing she does in the film. I think in part it was because, as Figment said, she’d been taught by her dad to be prejudiced against other dinosaurs. And while she was starting to show signs of shedding off her prejudice throughout the film, she clearly hadn’t quite made the transition yet.

Beyond that, however, I don’t think it was premeditated on her part. Keep in mind that they’ve been travelling for who knows how many exhausting days on end, with no end in sight, and I think it’s understandable that any of them would be quite cranky and irritable at that point. With Littlefoot continually pressing them forward, I can see why Cera got fed up. I think it was just a heat-of-the-moment comment expressing her frustration at Littlefoot telling her that she was going the wrong way when, from her perspective, he has no valid proof of this whatsoever.

It certainly doesn’t justify her comment, but I do think the context is important.

Really though, poor Littlefoot. Everything he has to go through in the film. But on the other hand, it makes it all the more awesome when, even after his fight with Cera and the others all ditch him as well, he still goes back to save them from the volcano area.

Actually, in some of the cut-off version, Littlefoot, after Cera snapped and they fought, went off on Petrie, argue and snapping at him and saying something that seemed a little mean. He said “Fine, you go with them, you’ve been nothing but trouble to me!”

Even in the original, I think he shouted “Fine, go the wrong way, we never wanted you anyway!” which was pretty mean for Littlefoot.

Of course, considering how off Littlefoot went, it might, to some degree, excuse Cera, in that she may have just been tired and grumpy.

Still mean, but yeah, I can understand it to some degree from the perspective that she was just, as you said, tired and grumpy.

I rewatched the scene. Littlefoot does indeed say “Go on! Go the wrong way! We never wanted you with us anyway!” But it was directed at Cera, not at Petrie. After Ducky says that Cera’s way is easier, Littlefoot doesn’t say anything else. He just storms off.
