Why didn't Littlefoot eat the Tree Star that his mother gave him?

      He didn’t want Petrie to tear it and he just kept carrying it until finally Sharptooth crushed it.

      However, when he and his friends were quite low on food, why didn’t they try and eat it?

      Or was that another irrational act of Littlefoot after his mother’s death.
